***** Morgan Farrand ******

British Columbia native, Morgan Farrand was involved with some of the earliest BC Festivals including Summer Love. It was there that he began his affection for House Music and in the early 2000s he made a name for himself in Northern California spinning Progressive and Deep House. His style was formed by a mixture of dirty electro sounds coupled with jazzy horn and sax ensembles and with a two year stint in Southern California he added a lighter smoother sound to his repertoire, while still staying true to his electronic roots.

In 2005 he relocated to the bay Area and although he held a residency at an SF wine bar he found himself digging the dirty breakbeats that were big in the Bay Area at the time. From 2008 on, aside from a few mini tours to Tahoe and Mammoth, a long battle with Illness took him out of the game for a number of years. Now he has landed in the PDX and is back on the scene with a well-rounded style of House, Breaks, Ghetto Funk and Downtempo.

From the Black Rock Desert and Lake Tahoe Underground to the Beaches and Clubs of SB to the SF Underground, Morgan has played alongside the like of Rick Preston, Cosmic Selector, Q Burns, Lourob, Micah J (AKA DJ Switch), DJ Jamar, and many other DJ and live acts over the last 15 years.

***** The Funkdealer ******

Arriving to planet earth almost 40 years ago from a galaxy so funky most humans can't even imagine, The Funkdealer (Jason Arthurs) started off as a jazz drummer in early high school and on… but slowly morphed into the world of the dj, as the funk started ruling his life more and more he began to embrace all genres and modes of music creation, always sourcing the top cuts of funk in any given genre of music, blending funk, hiphop, electro, breaks, dub, classic rock, latin and genres that you've never even heard of, doing live mashups, remixes, and scratching. The Funkdealer has shared the stage with WC of Westside Connection, Sweat Shop Union, Mat the Alien and been the dj with local acts True Colours, Shatterproof, Groove Operator. Be prepared to get your dance on aboard the starship funk.

Leroy Stagger and Juno Nominee and CanadianFolk Award Winner John Wort Hannam

Members $8 • Guests with members $16

Leeroy Stagger:

Raised in Victoria, BC Leeroy Stagger worked in several local bands until gaining attention from acts such as Hot Hot Heat and Carolyn Mark. Stagger has garnered an international fan base through relentless touring both home and abroad. Stagger is already well on his way to joining the likes of John Hiatt, Ryan Adams and John Prine as an ambassador for North American roots rock ‘n’ roll.

"There has always been a swagger about Stagger, a slightly cocky self-confidence that’s actually quite endearing...and there’s an open and honest feel to his unaffected voice. This is arguably his best work yet." − Exclaim (Radiant Land)

"From start to finish, it feels like Stagger put every ounce of himself into each melodies and each couplet. It’s sad but it’s honest, which is something lacking from music and life these days." − Herohill (Little Victories)

"(Stagger)’s uncompromisingly honest, and all the more powerful for it, and twinned with the wonderfully evocative, haunting, and eclectic music within, Depression River is as mighty as the Mississippi." − AllMusic (Depression River)

Discography: Six Tales of Danger (2002), Dear Love (2004), Beautiful House (2005),Tales From the Back Porch (2006), Depression River (2006), Everything Is Real (2009),Little Victories (2011), Radiant Land (2012), Truth be Sold (2013).
Touring history: Steve Earle, The Pixies, Los Lobos, Tegan and Sara, Evan Dando, Ron Sexsmith, Danny Michel, Joel Plaskett, Modest Mouse, George Thorogood to name a few.

John Wort Hannam:

It's a long, hard road – figuratively and literally – from a teaching job on a southern Alberta First Nation's reserve to a Juno-nominated roots music career with performances at The Kennedy Centre, The Smithsonian, and Trafalgar Square, but he wouldn't trade the journey for the world.

Now a prize-winning songwriter and performer touring internationally, John Wort Hannam is known for his unique take on the simple day-to-day dramas of common folk through songs that map the landscapes of both the human heart and this vast country of ours.

With a keen eye for the quirky and lyrics that create stories behind the songs, this born storyteller shares the personal and the profound. Thriving on live performance, John Wort Hannam is truly happy when he is on the road playing and connecting personally with an audience.

Smiling Jack has been writing and singing his songs in a career that spans five decades and three continents…from New York City to Vancouver, from Florida to New Jersey, from Madrid to Australia, from London to Hamburg.

His music has changed and evolved with the times and the places he has seen and lived: folk songs with The Smith Brothers in New York (with lead guitar Stan Jay), folk-rock in Vancouver (with players like Joe Mock, Pat Coleman, Ed Patterson and Robbie King), country in Florida (with T.C. Carr on harmonica) and blues in Europe and Australia (with David Gwynn, Antonio Serrano and Jim Finn).

On street corners, at arts and craft faires, in concert halls and bars, and more recently in house concerts (especially in Kiel, Germany) the audiences have been warm and responsive, giving Jack a place in their hearts and minds.

His recordings, ranging from the Ahh Capella CD with Party Fever in Vancouver through This Blue Before (produced by Pat Coleman with an all star cast of Canadian musicians) to the acclaimed acoustic project Now That Truth Was Gone with David Gwynn, have been played all over the world.

Now That Truth Was Gone was named as one of the Top Ten Blues Records released in Europe in 2012 by the Underground Blues Network.
Jack has just released a new CD, Simple Pleasure, again working with David Gwynn. It is the logical succesor to their last CD, an eclectic mix of many different blues styles and topics following along the path that led him to be called “Spain’s blues poet” by Vicente Zumel from La Hora del Blues.

Admission $8 Members • $16 Guests of Members • 8:30 pm (doors at 8)

The Sunshine Coast's own multi-talented David j Taylor is returning to the Little Legion in Robert's Creek September 25th, along with local songwriter extraordinaire Robin
Atchison.

Tickets at the door - Members $6; Guests with Members $12 • Doors 7:30 pm. Showtime 8:30 pm

After a successful performance opening up for Northern Pikes founder Jay Semko last February, this time around David will be "live looping": capturing rhythm tracks with live beat boxing, bass lines, guitar riffs, and vocal harmonies as he builds and layers complete "one man band" live sound mixes before the audience's eyes and ears. A truly unique live experience, and a performance style he's been perfecting since 2002. David will be dusting off his Line6 DL-4 pedal for this concert - the first time he's done so in quite some time. He'll be playing electric guitar, rhodes keyboard and acoustic guitar and will also perform songs in a more conventional manner throughout the evening - 1 voice - 1 instrument. David will showcase songs from his 15 album catalogue going back to the early 1990s at this performance.

A full night's worth of original music featuring David and fellow Sunshine Coast singer-songwriter Robin Atchison.

Robin Atchison is song-writer, singer, sculptor and poet. Robin is relatively new to the coast but he's not new to writing, recording and performing great songs.
He'll make you laugh, he'll make you cry, he might even make you think. As a writer you can expect a wide range of songs and influences form folk to humorous, social commentary, blues, country and rock and roll. Robin is soon to release his new LP "The Heart" in fall 2015.

Reviews of Robin:
"Super" Jimmy Olsen, the Daily Planet
"A great songwriter and singer", The Winnipeg Hog Journal
"I was enthralled", Peanut Farmers of America
"A must see", Ernie's Garage
"Huh, what?", NORML

David j Taylor also leads another life within the entertainment industry, one that oftentimes informs his songwriting and overall creative process. He's a multiple award-winning record producer, singer/songwriter, film/television "sound nerd" and abstract painter. He's released 15 albums as a solo artist and with the groups: Semko
Fontaine Taylor, Big Cookie, Generals and Majors and DSM. As an award-winning producer/engineer/mixer and mastering engineer (2007 Western Canadian Music Award "Producer of the year" award winner) he's worked on 100+ album projects, notably Geoff Berner, Despistado, Simon Paradis, and Megan Nash. David is a six-time Gemini Award nominee and Rosie Award-winning audio post production mixer, foley recorist, music supervisor and composer who's worked on hundreds of hours of film and television, notably foley for The 2012 Academy Award nominated film "Wild Life" and all 6 seasons of the hit comedy Corner Gas, music supervisor for the critically acclaimed syndicated teen drama renegadepress.com and re-recording mixer for "MS Wars" - The Nature of Things with David Suzuki". Upon his move to the Sunshine Coast in 2012 David has since become an avid and prolific abstract painter whose canvases have now been shown during 3 group exhibitions in Sechelt and hang at numerous residences across Canada via private sale.

They got their name based on the 1st initials of their first names and while the namesake implies a lack of focus, this band has no problem focusing on their love of guitar-based blues, roots and classic rock favourites spanning the last 4 decades.
