Vancouver-based funk rock dance band Ripple Illusion is a fresh take on a retro sound, mixing together musical influences from a variety of different eras. Blending inspirations ranging from Motown to R&B and modern rock, the band has created a truly unique brand of piano-driven rock and roll. The band was created in fall 2014 by Mike Turner, also of the accomplished Canadian Rock and Roll outfit Damn Fools. Inspired by his experience in the 2014 Peak Performance Project, Turner decided to join forces with longtime friend and blues musician, Caroline Allatt. Together, they realized their musical influences were complimentary and they began incorporating tight vocal harmonies into the fabric of Turner’s dynamic instrumentation and musical arrangements.

The band recorded their self-titled debut EP in late 2014, which is due out in May 2015. The EP opens with "Back to the Start", a song that seamlessly weaves between hard hitting rock and dreamy R&B balladry to deliver an infectiously hopeful message. From there, the album consistently returns to the theme of longing for truth in a world that provides us mere illusions. The band will be hitting the road across BC & Alberta this summer in support of their self-titled EP. From there, the future looks promising for a group that seems to have all the tools to be a large part of Canada’s music scene for years to come.

Jamie Bowers. Tribute to the electric guitar. Members $5 / Guests w. Members $10

Guitar player extraordinaire Jamie Bowers presents an evening of lyrical electric guitar. His singing lead guitar tone is similar to the likes of Jeff Beck, Hendrix and Santana. You’ll hear beautiful and exciting instrumental versions of classic rock tunes and a sprinkling of his original tunes written for television. From latin feels reminiscent of Santana to world music evoking African tribal chant. There are tons of great dance grooves to keep the floor filled all night.

“He shares his virtuosity with a wink, making a strong connection with the crowd.”
Bernard Lawrence

Before going into television music in 1986, James produced over 4000 songs for independent singer/songwriters as producer, arranger, multi-instrumentalist and engineer. In 1979 and 1980 he performed internationally with Canadian rock bands Chilliwack and Prism, playing to crowds of up to 40,000 people.

Loooooops.
James solos on “loops” from classic rock songs. Hear these songs in a whole new way...

Low rider - War
Walk on the wild side - Lou Reed
Walking on the moon - Police
When the world is running down - Police
Everyday people - Sly & the family stone
Rock On - David Essex
Once in a lifetime - Talking Heads

Jeff Beck tribute.
Some of these are edgy rock/fusion, some are hauntingly beautiful...

Cause we’ve ended as lovers
Scatterbrain
Two Rivers
Goin’ Down
The Pump
El Becko
Savoy
Diamond Dust
Freeway Jam

James also sprinkles in a few songs played without backing tracks for a warm and intimate touch.

Here come’s the sun- Beatles
Ma Cherie amour - Stevie Wonder
Black Orpheus - Antonio Carlos Jobim
Icarus - Paul Winter
Minuit - Paul Winter
People Get Ready - Curtis Mayfield

Dinner music with Ross Powell, singer/songwriter/producer

Coasters know Ross from local cover band 'The Song Butchers', and for producing and performing in the highly acclaimed tribute concert 'Covering Joni - Album by Album', presented at the 2013 Sechelt Arts Festival. Recently Ross performed in another Joni Mitchell tribute at the Gibsons Public Art Gallery, with a reincarnation of the band put together for the 2013 concert ’The (Still) Smokin’ Joni’s’. Ross will be indulging his passion for some of his favourite song writers, including Joni, Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull, as well as some unplugged selections from his work in progress; a highly overdue album of original material.
